My sons teacher tells me he is reading at Ginn stage 4. What does this mean? is it good, Ok or poor. I felt he was a good reader. Also I have tried to google the words but cant find any examples of stage 4 text. Can anyone help?

How old is he? is "stage" the same as "level"? My son's are also on the Ginn books but they're in levels rather than stages...

A friend whose son is reading Ginn sent me the following chart . Don't know if it helps, as the bands seem very wide.

I did mean level actually Thaigal - perhaps I need to read more slowly. DS is 5.5 b.t.w.
Singersgirl, the first page of the chart in your link is blank, could you send it again - thanks.

DS sometimes reads Ginn books, he's in Yr2, about average for his class (I read with them so I know), and he's at about the middle (slightly to the right of the middle, maybe) of the Ginn range. I don't know what number that is, just remember the middle of the pack of cards symbol on the back of the book.

Does that help?

Not unless you know the range flack ie 1 -10 etc.

dd is on Ginn stage 4, but dipping in and out of stage 5 as she is really between them. She is Y1 and was previously on stage 5 ORT but getting bored of Biff and Chip. I think she is considered above average but not a brilliant reader for her age and compared to the class, IYSWIM. I personally don't like Ginn as much as say Storyworlds, but the teacher seemed to think they were better. The stories are a bit odd! What year is your child in?

My son is almost 6 and is on level 2, my eldest son is 7 and is on level 11. I'd say level 5 at the age of 5 is really good.

Just checked, DS is on Level 5, I know he's about average, so agree that Level 4 at age 5.5 is very good.
