It's amazing what a difference the right school can make....

Last year my daughter's school closed suddenly and we had two weeks to find her a new one. She's now in year 6.

Anyway, it seems to me that this was a blessing in disguise. She has gone from being a child who never knew what her homework was to one who constantly has a pen in her hand and is always working. She has also won a scholarship. She seems to suddenly have so much direction, and I'm glad that this has come in time for year 7!

I guess I never realised how the right school can make such a difference.

What a lovely outcome. I'm sure you must have been stressed beyond belief at the time. I agree different schools can definitely bring our different qualities in a child and also even just the year group can have a significant impact.

Thanks isee. I always felt that she was bright but quite lazy! So it's great that she now actually wants to work.

Do you know what it is specifically that has improved things?

I am hoping inspired teaching and an exciting curriculum!!!

I think it's the general ethos of the school. They have a work hard, play hard approach. Everything is as fun as possible but they are expected to work and they are expected to organise themselves and take responsibility for their possessions and their learning. At her previous school she was just drifting.

It's amazing what an impact a key change can have. My son is loving school sports again now he can choose what he does rather than having to endure compulsory rugby. He looks forward to games periods now (when he usually goes for a swim, except for cricket this term) instead of dreading them, as was the case for the first term every year previously.

The right school for a child is a very important start of her life!
