Hello, all the mums I know care about the kind of education their children receive, so I thought the Mumsnet community might be interested in our Fair and Equal Education manifesto that was published today. It was developed through the Respecting Children and Young People project by educational researchers from the British Educational Research Association. It's about creating an education system for the type of world we want for children and young people, because the education system we have at the moment is not yet built for a bright future. I think the messages in your manifesto are ones which it should be hard for anyone to disagree with.

The one that caught my attention as having lots of "potential" meanings and therefore policy outcomes is the following.

"Recognises that there is no advantage to private sector involvement in the education and services provided for children and young people, and that privatisation and consumer choice in the current education policy infrastructure is contributing to social inequality."

Would you care to elaborate on this and what it would actually mean for education policy?
