School report request?

MumTalia · 15/01/2015 15:39

My son has had a number of requests from prospective school for full reports from his current school state in support of his independent school admission application.

I'd be very interested to read one of these report.

Do I have a right to ask for copies of these reports?
Has anyone else ever asked to see their child's report which would be addressed to the prospective school?

The school will just forward on the most recent report which you, hopefully, would have already seen. It's most likely to be done electronically and be a list of current and predicted grades.

it really depends whether they mean the school reports which you will normally receive or a reference, which you won't be given (I asked to see my ds and was told its confidential between the schools)

You could make a subject access request under the data protection act. You have the right to see all personal data held about your child, including correspondence.

I certainly wouldn't go down a subject access request if you are still hoping to get a place at the senior school concerned!

To Ladymuck : why not out of interest? Is it because it would P* off the existing school?

I would expect the primary school to alert the senior school to the fact that the report is no longer "confidential" and why.

If you've been rejected by the senior school, then it might be worth doing so to see what was said. But currently we're in the middle of the decision making process, and you don't really want to label yourself as a high maintenance parent until your deposit has been accepted.
