First time I post even I read regularly.
Starting to panic waiting for interview call at KCS 10+ or ´no interview´ letter posted tomorrow. Is there anyone waiting for KCS 10+? Would love to share the moment.

I wouldn't panic, they are increasing the 11+ intake from 12 to 44 for next year so if he doesn't make 10+ he's got a good chance then.

ineedacoffee123 · 14/01/2015 12:52

That's good news ! Thank you for sharing .
I had no idea the new building was for that purpose.
DS has applied to 2 other schools , being KCS our first option. We still have to wait what happens , but days are getting longer as the deadline approaches.
And final answers will be in a months time ,Confused!!!!

As from Sep 2017 the 11+ intake will so straight into the senior school, who will effectively operate 2 classes for year 7 and 8. These boys will not have to sit CE/transition or any 13+ entry exams at all, they are already part of the senior school.
The junior school to which you are applying will carry on entirely separately until Y8 when they will sit Transition exams for the senior school. They will no longer have any entry at 11+, Y5 will be the final entry year.

You may want to bear all that in mind because Y7 entry a year later with no 13+ exams could be a better option for your DS, thats probably why they haven't told you!

Being a KCS parent is pretty exhausting, everything is always changing, but good luck.

Ooooops seems like it could be good news not to get in this year.!

So you mean in 2016 there will be two different groups of year 7 boys? The old ones will remain in the same building and will need to sit their exams and the new ones will enter year 9 straight away?
Are you happy at the school so far ?
Does anybody know when the 10+ interviews are planned this year? DS has a school trip and dreading could be that week.
I don't want to call admissions to ask as he has not even been invited to interview ( and I'm afraid he won't , he said KCS exam was the hardest of the three he did! ) We also forgot pen at home so he wrote in pencil the whole test, which won't help .

Yes there will be two completely separate groups of boys in 2 different Y7s, fielding their own sports teams etc. Apparently they do something similar at Brighton College and are copying them.
School is very good if you ignore obsession with Tatler, but I'm getting a bit fed up with all the changes. By the time DS leaves the school will be nothing like the one we chose for him, but St Pauls which was our alternative will be exactly the same.

In your shoes I would hope that he just misses out and gets in at 11+ next year and avoids CE/transition. Wouldn't worry about the pencil, they really won't care.

ineedacoffee123 · 14/01/2015 16:03

Yes it looks better to get in after 11+ instead. The problem will be if he gets in in any of the other 2 schools he is applying to . We opted for 10+ entrance as we thought the ratio was higher, but didn't tutor him. But he could be lucky and get a place in any of the three... Or no place at all.

And for the current boys in KCJS I really find this change absolutely unfair. I dont know how I would take it as a parent.

Thank you so much for your advice.I will keep you posted if we have good or bad news ( not sure yet which are what) Smile

As a KCJS parent I don't find the new 11+ arrangement at all unfair.

I'm delighted that the number of places on offer at 11+ is being increased as it may help boys coming from state schools. My own DS may well have stayed at their state primary if the intake at 11+ had been bigger. I felt pressured to move them at 7+ knowing the odds at 11+ would be much worse.

I love the school. Only wish DD could go there before 6th form.

ineedacoffee123 · 16/01/2015 14:03

I agree with you, mertonmama, that increasing 11+ intake is good. I was just thinking that the boys who are currently at KCJS would love to use the new facilities.
I fell in love with the school since the first open afternoon. I wish my DS could get there. Today post arrived and no 'thank you' letter, but we have not been called for interview yet, so I'm afraid we still have to wait...
Anyone in the same boat?

I'm not so sure about increased access mertonmama, though if true it would be a good thing there are far too few places at 11+. Entry is for the senior school so there will be nothing to stop boys at 13+ preps who have KCS as a first choice applying for the new 11+ entry places. If KCS was my first choice with the entry at 13+ being reduced to 35 from 60 I would definitely sit and avoid CE. Interestingly, in DS's year of the 12 that started at Y7, 5 had disappeared by the start of Y9, but hopefully that's not typical.

Most senior school parents I know seem to expect it to go co-ed in a few years time and the increased 11+ entry is to clear the way for this. The school claim's not, but apparently they denied all intention of a co-ed 6th form until it happened.

Good luck, Ineed, I hope someone else comes along to keep you company and at least we're "bumping" you!

ineedacoffee123 · 16/01/2015 17:10

Just got the thanks but no letter...
Thank you for your support , I guess he will sit again next year if he is keen on , depending on the feedback received .

cakeisalwaystheanswer · 16/01/2015 17:36

I'm sorry I think 10 and 11+ are the hardest entry points, but hopefully that will change from next year.

Where else is he sittiing?

ineedacoffee123 · 16/01/2015 17:53

City And Dulwich.
Very different Schools but we liked the both.

Don't know city but have been to Dulwich a few times and love it. It would have been DS's first choice if we lived that way.

Good Luck
