school applications- are you finding it hard to meet the deadline

We have really bad schools on our doorstep so we have to move into a better area also other reasons, but we just can't find anything to buy or rent. We've spent the whole summer searching and looking and we were very close to buying when the chain broke. If I can't move I can't meet the application deadlines and I feel like I'm the only one in this situation are there any other out there that feel this same pressure?

Are you talking about secondary schools? We also have some very poor secondary schools in our area. I am not thinking of moving, but I'm having serious problems thinking of 3 local schools I'd be happy for dd2 to attend!

I do feel for you as my application has to be in by 6 Nov. The school one, which required utility bills, had an earlier date i think. So don't know how you would manage that if your area is similar.

Will you go and visit the local schools? If you do, i hope you are pleasantly surprised.

Good luck.

utility bills??!
Blimey, they aren't taking any chances, are they? I take it things are cut-throat for school places round your gaff, mell2?!

Mell2tingPotofGooooooo · 15/10/2006 13:56

Oh yes, it is taken very seriously around here: Full original birth certificate and 2 recent utility bills. I don't have anything to compare it with so I thought this was the norm!

We also need birth certificate and utility bills - and that's just for our priority primary school where we are guaranteed a place!

Thought it was the norm too mell2!

My LEA doesn't ask for utility bills or birth certs as far as I am aware . Although they did have a nightmare over secondary admissions last year which they are claiming was partly down to people pretending to live here.

Mell2tingPotofGooooooo · 15/10/2006 16:16

edam - it wasn't the LEA form that required the utility bills and b.certificate but a supplementary form from the school.

This is for a secondary school btw.

Oh, and the original council tax bill.
