hi all. the position is advertised as permanent but they said the first 1 year is fixed contract..and then the next contract would be permanent. is there a way to negotiate to have permanent contract with 1 year probation clause? thank you.

I think all you can do is talk to them about it.

I am on a one year contract. Lots of jobs gained through an agency seem to be contract then the possibility of a permanent position. Did you get your job through an agency?

a one year fixed term contract is what it says on the tin. There is no obligation to offer the post beyond this date. some employers use fixed term contracts to manage their workforce allow them to reduce staff without having to pay out redundancies.
Nevertheless if you are the right candidate they may offer you a permanent contract rather than risk losing you in a year`s time
sometimes employers recruiting through an agency only offer temporary posts otherwise they are obliged to advertise, shortlist and recruit in line with equal opportunities legalisation.
