Following a conversation with a friend today am just interested in having a look at the national curriculum targets for primary schools. She was saying her DD[yr1] targets are basically at a level that my ds who is 3 next week can already do which doesnt seem right to me.

I can't find a link, though have just been to a curriculum evening for DS2, Y1. Some of the stuff they will be covering in numeracy:
number bonds for all numbers up to 10
numbers to 20
partitioning into 10s and units
counting on in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s
adding and taking away 10 from a number
money
time to the hour and half hour
shapes and measuring

In literacy:
reading (obviously)
learning to write for different purposes eg stories, accounts, lists, labels

Bear in mind that there is an enormous range of ability within a year, so some children at the start of Y1 are reading Roald Dahl, for example, and some aren't reading at all; some are writing quite long stories with pretty accurate spelling and some aren't writing much at all; some have been working confidently with numbers beyond 100 for some time and others are still learning their numbers to 20.

If I find a link I will post it.

Does she mean the attainment targets for each subject area?

These can be found here . Click on each subject, and then attainment targets. Gives you programme of study on left, attainment targets on right. Use the tabs at top (such as in English) to navigate between different aspects of that subject.

The National Curriculum starts for Y1, age 5-6 years, with Level 1.
