CE Pass rates

Can anyone tell me, is the CE pass rate the % equal over every subject or do they give and take to create an average across all subjects to get the final mark?
My DS is getting himself in a right old stew over French as he just hates it and doesn't get very good marks (Slightly dyslexic too) and he is convinced French is going to make him fail his CE. One of our choices of school is 60-65% pass rate and his place has been offered subject to him passing CE 'satisfactorily'. Would he have to get 60% in French?

Well it's depends on the senior school. Some will Ask for a given percentage average over all subjects and some the average has to be reached in certain subjects or all the subjects even. Therefore either the Senior school or you preps will be able to advise on what is expected at specific schools. Unless you could name the school that hopefully someone here will be able to give you a more precise answer.

Ok thanks, yes it is Oundle. Of course just when I decide I need answers the schools are on half term!

IME schools will want a particular percentage for English, Maths, Science then an average (same) percentage over the other subjects. NB you wiill never actually know the percentages as the results are expressed in grades A, B, C etc which I always thought was very anoying after all the emphasis on percentages! It would be so much better if they just said we need x A grades or whatever!

I note you say "one of our choices" - Are you talikng about 13+ CE? If so, you know that you will have to nominate just one school, which marks the papers?

A few years ago a friends DS missed the mark that Oundle required for CE by quite a long way they still offered him a place.
