Is it for a boy or girl? Leicester itself or other towns/areas? What age group?

Have heard good things about Leicester High but don't know any girls there now. It's pretty academic and I don't think girls automatically move from juniors to seniors - they do inform some parents their children would fare better elsewhere (this seems more honest than some other schools who will let a child struggle in seniors though)

A lot of people living in the Leicestershire villages also send their children to the Loughborough schools (lots of school buses serve the villages). Loughborough High for girls is extremely popular and highly regarded locally. It seems to produce lovely sociable, well-rounded girls who are confident but not arrogant, and has a very good reputation for pastoral care. The Convent school around the corner is also fabulous (you don't have to be Catholic to go there) and will suit some girls more than either of the High schools. It all depends on personality and learning style and what sort of environment best suits your daughter.

Fairfield Prep and the Loughborough senior schools are great.

Grace Dieu Manor and Dixie Grammar School are both very good. I have several friends from both and they have all insisted their children attend the same schools. Grin

Sorry Llamas, thought I had written a reply to you too but clearly in my tired 'up all night with baby' state hadn't sent it. Thanks for the info- Loughborough high for girls looks good- will send for the prospectus. Coming round to the idea of all girls schools.

The nice thing about the Loughborough schools is that the prep is co-ed and then the senior schools are on the same "campus" so there's an element of informal mixing. They also do music and drama things together so it's a nice combination.

As Marialuisa says, Loughborough High is a great set-up as if girls go to Fairfields, the joint prep with the boys' grammar school next door, they know lots of the boys at the grammar school once they go their separate ways at 11 and it makes for a great social life. The schools are in a lovely setting too (though parking can be a nightmare!).
