Common Entrance - getting myself confused!

At the risk of sounding really stupid (never done common entrance before!) will my ds sit the actual exams at his prep school or at the senior school? They all seem to word it slightly differently and I'm getting mixed up! I'm talking about normal common entrance, not common scholarship or anything like that! The biggest confusion comes from Lancing College where on their list of important dates they seem to list these exams

Normal common entrance will be at the prep. I've had a quick look at the website and my understanding is that they have their own exams at the senior school for non-CE candidates.

Many schools set their own exams these days and they're taken at the school in question.
CE is then taken at prep.

The senior school does the marking.

Taken at prep with papers sent to and marked by the secondary. The dates are fixed nationally.
