I need to name EVERYTHING - including tights; could anyone help with this?

I think name tags are out as people will just cut them out

& I don't fancy embroidering her name in everything

I can use a black marker pen for shoes I guess, but black leotards? & tights?

Do iron on letters work or are there pens you can get?

You can get iron on name tapes.

Will your DD not be reasonably good at keeping her kit together - or is this to do with communal washing or something?

I sew labels in tights. The iron on ones last about half a term before the transfers come off & they come in white only (fine for black footless but don't show up well in pink ballet)

Do not underestimate vocational school/college changing room mess. Stuff gets thrown everywhere

Laundry stamp may help in the leotard and tights situation. I never sew nametapes to labels due to th e ease of removing them

The women in my family (and DH's) used to get together once a year for an evening of name tapes/markers etc. A (mini) army of daughters, mothers and grandmothers had a convivial evening getting the job done over spag bol and bottles of Chianti. I even came to look forward to it.

The men cooked the spag bol, washed up and were allowed to go the pub.

Light coloured items you may be able to just write name on there. Or silver pen on dark items.

Expensive stuff....write down S/N....so can check off and register number with House matron

For tights I use a marker in the waistband tbh (sew woven labels for almost everything else). They don't show through a leotard, however DD does not dance at the level yours does!
Grovel - sounds idyllic, like the Walton's orlittle house on the prairie. Sadly for us, it would mean just 2 of us sewing still, and DH in a pub by himself

I've used these iron-in labels - www.wovenlabelsuk.com/school-labels/wl-14.html - and after two years they still haven't come unstuck. The printing has faded, but you can write on them again in laundry marker/sharpie.

For some reason I thought this was going to be a thread about someone with an unstoppable compulsion to assign names inanimate objects.

Just me with that problem then.

(I was going to suggest Horace for the tights, BTW. Horace the hosiery. Obviously).

I love Horace for hosiery - it's fab (& much easier than a name tape)

I have ironed labels on everything - twice for the more expensive items!

I just have pointe shoes left to do!

I sew labels on most things and also use a sharpie to write in the clothes tag (double measure just in case).
For shoes and items that I can't sew a label into I use either a tippex pen or a sharpie pen (tippex for darks insoles etc).
I have to say that my main reason for being so neurotic about labelling is that my son is useless as taking care of his clothes and is regularly sent to check the lost property shelf for the items he left behind the previous day.
