moving to twickenham or teddington

Hello
I got to move to london before school starts and I am kind of stuck here as I am running out of time..I m looking for teddington or twickenham or hampton. .which will be appropriate for me and my husband work to commute ..can u help in guiding me to a good family firndly placed to live in n good primary school..

All three areas are great places to live with a family with lots of great schools (at primary). Great secondary provision is a bit patchy. Because the schools in this borough are so well regarded they are full to bursting, with tiny catchments and waiting lists. How old are your children ? Id call richmond borough and find out about available places. there are also lots of v well regarded independent schools. 30% of children in this borough are privately educated.
Where do you need to commute to for work? If you need fast access to central London, Twickenham provides that better than Teddington or Hampton.

Twickenham is closer to Richmond and has better transport links. It is also a lot cheaper compared to Teddington. Tbh pretty much all of the primaries in that area are great, but catchment areas are tiny. For secondary the best ones are probably Teddington (mixed) and Waldegrave (girls), the the others are still good but not as good. There are a few grammar schools in Kingston and Hampon boys as well.

Thank u for helpful answers..I need to commute to kingston uni. I have been looking at state agency and I think teddington is out of budget..so I think I will be focusing on twickenham..can u advice me with particular primary schools n twickenham. .highly appreciated

They really are all good in this borough. You need to find out where there are spaces because they are all full to bursting. Check out the Richmond upon Thames local site for lots of discussion on the schools

You won't get much choice really. They're so full it's likely you'll just go wherever there is space.

Are you catholic? Schools v full, you might struggle to find one school that takes both kids. I would look at Hampton too if you need to get to Kingston.

Heather, is your child going into Reception or another year Group? There are often spaces higher up the schools at this time of year. My DCs school has space in certain year groups.

Bear in mind that many of the faith schools coordinate their own in-year admissions so for anything other than Reception you might need to call them direct.

P.s. you can easily get the train to Kingston from Twickenham, Strawberry Hill or Teddington

Thank u all for wonderful advices..I have one boy in reception n a girl in year4..I am still contacting the estate agencies to arrange for viewing..I hope I can find something appropriate quickly..then I will contact schools.

Heather, it might be worth getting the Y4 place sorted first, then your Reception child wlll have sibling priority if a Reception place comes up at the same school. There was definitely a y4 place coming up at our school, though not sure if it's filled yet. I'll PM you the school name.

Otherwise, a Reception place might be a little harder to come by.

I can recommend Snellers estate agents locally. I know a few people who have rented via them when having building work done etc. Good luck with your search.

So far teddington is out of my budget..Unfortunately.. what about hampton,Feltham.whitton..( bit cheaper) in terms of family Friendly and primary schools.

Whitton has some excellent schools - Chase Bridge is probably best but again it tends to be oversubscribed.

Hampton hill juniors is also a great school

If the budget won't stretch to teddington
How about trying fulwell so you'd be close to Stanley road school. My DS just left collis in teddington which was the top school in the area but the headmaster has retired so it will be interesting to see if the excellence is maintained as he ran a very tight ship . I'd steer well clear of feltham if I were you .

Don't know about schools I'm afraid, but it will be cheaper because of the Heathrow-bound airplane noise. We looked at a fabulous house that way, years ago, and whilst I hardly noticed the planes during our visit, it drove my dh mad.

It really bothers some people, so you need to know about it, in case you are one of those people.

Triple glazing is your friend under the Heathrow flight path!! How long are you likely to be there? Secondary options not great unless you're in catchment for Osterley

Whitton has a fab High St, on the up, and Nelson primary is tipped to improve rapidly now it's part of the Waldegrave Trust.

You can still get the 281 to Kingston from there too, but no direct train. You'd have to change at Twickenham.

Oh, and as your eldest is in y4 she'll be the first cohort for the new Secondary at Egerton Rd, opening 2017. I expect parta of Whitton will be in catchment for that, especially in the early years. www.reec.org.uk/

Why would anyone want to go into a totally untried new school?

how are you getting on? I know this area well and the schools if you have any questions.
The first thing i would do is ring Richmond borough and ask which schools have a place in yr4. That shouldn't be too difficult as that is when places start opening up as people move away or into private and others don't move their kids to take up a place.
Think about secondary for your yr4 daughter - waldegrave is the best option but you may prefer mixed. Lots of houses in waldegrave catchment that aren't too overpriced if you base around Fulwell, up towards staines road. But from there, a bit of a black hole for other secondaries...
Surbiton / Hinchley Wood area might be a better bet for commuting to london and kingston uni, better value properties and decent schools too, though not familiar with the individual schools there.

icimoi would you like to address that question to the 350 parents who were disappointed in their applications for Turing House? Or the satisfied parents whose children just finished Year 7 in St Richard Reynolds? And all the parents who applied this year?

Great staff to pupil ratios? an enthusiasm and will for the school to succeed? the focus of resources on those first pupils? who gain the confidence of being the heads of the school throughout their secondary careers?

Obviously the leadership needs to be in place and parents need to be confidant of that but there are as many potential reasons to put your child into a new school as there are not to. It is each parents decision about what is right for their child (if they have a choice )

Heather As others have said, first step is to find out where there are Year 4 vacancies, the problem around here is not finding good schools but getting places in them.
