Help homework any ideas welcome

My dd is back at school tomorrow and she still hasn't finished her homework. When I try to get it done with her she either tries to get me to do it or her, does a bad job just to finish or we have a stand up fight.

This morning I got so cross I had to walk away, it was that or the homework got done but a corpse goes to school tomorrow.

Any ideas to help me get through to her welcome before I go mad or strangle her!

How old is she?? Would a star chart be any good??

Hallgerda · 13/09/2006 14:42

Or just leave her to take the consequences of not giving her homework in?

hairymclary · 13/09/2006 14:44

was going to say the same as hallgerda. Offer to help her get it done. If she refuses then let her know that she will get in trouble, and make it clear that that is HER choice.

I'm another one who would give dd a choice - either she does the homework (with your help, if necessary) or you walk away, leave her to it, and she faces the consequences at school.

The charts from the other thread are working with ds2.

You've offered her the help, let her see what the consequences of not doing it are.

how old is she maryPOp1?

She's 8 and the homework has to be done by tomorrow morning. After much rowing and a discussion on what she would tell her teacher she has finally done the majority of it. This is her summer homework and she has had 4 months to do and we have had row after row about. I have tried blackmail and bribbery I have tried calm and shouting. Next summer I will just not let go to the beach until it done.

I'd let her take in 'the bad job'. It's her work and maybe it will be okay.

Took in today, Not all the children finished their work so fingers crossed it'll be okay.

She needed to write 5 stories, which we had done, I put some photo's of her trip to the UK in with the stories. The teachers liked them and asked her to save them for the English teacher who is coming tomorrow.

I have concluded from this experience that I have been putting my English standards on the expectations of the teachers. It seems in Italy, when they give homework they don't expect it to be finished.

Next year I'll relax!!!
