When do your children do their homework?

It has got to the stage now where I think that dd2 should go to bed half hour before dd1, in that half hour, would it be a good idea for dd 1 to do homework, or should it be quiet time?

When do your children do their homework, also, is this alot for her first lot of homework. (She is 7)

Read a book
Learn 10 spellings
10 maths questions

Has she got a week to do all that in Radley?

Surely its read some of a book (unless its a very short book?)

My dd does her homework (5 x 20 mins per week) on some school nights and the rest at weekends. Also if learning spellings, I can test her in the car on way from/to school.

No, its to be done during the weekend.

She also has to find out all about teeth and take in as many toothpaste boxes as she can.

That's a huge amount for a 7 year old, my dd is 9 and until this term started she had only 1 session of maths h/work and some spellings every week.

What kind of school is it?

Radley · 08/09/2006 16:37

Its just a general junior school, i must admit I was quite surprised at the amount she has

My twins last year in their private school had 10 spellings once a week to learn, a book to take home each night to be read with the parent but not the whole thing, amount depended on the child and sometimes just read as much as you can and once a week a maths sheet and I think an English sheet once a week. Now going into Junior school they might get a bit more.

When to do it? I get their nanny to do the spellings and sheets and if they don't I help. I do the reading with them on my knee or next to me in bed because it's cost and good prelude to a bed time story from me.

4yo DD has started school this week ad got her first homework the second day! Two flashcards and two pages of a book to read (one word per page). More reading practise rest of week. We have done a couple of minutes just after dinner, around 7ish and then a recap in the morning over breakfast, around 7:30am.

Hula, I remember you saying your dd was starting on another thread! How has she been? Has she seen you off happily or not? My ds starts monday, I am keen to hear how it's going for others?

Bet she looked cute in her uniform!
