Montessori- can someone explain what it is?

I've been merrily pinning things on Pinterest and there seems to be a big slant towards Montessori style apparently (according to the websites).

There's no montessori schools/nurseries near me to find out more about it, but it has interested me, so please tell me all you know about it.

Please explain to me about Montessori and how it works compared to other educational methods as I'm unlikely to see it in practice here.

Oh, that's very interesting, it's similar to the EYFS but more in depth I suppose. It would have been great for DS1 who has very poor fine motor skills

Yes, the eyfs uses a lot of Maria montessori's theory :) as silly said! children work more independently in Montessori settings, although settings can decide how much of the method they use.
