Mill hill County High School

My DS is taking the VR test of the Mill Hill County High School. I don't know much about the school except that it is rated Good by Ofsted. Anyone here who has information on the school or experience of sending their kids there?
Also how is the test? My DS is bright but thus is first real test and I'm nervous.

Hi. I live locally but out of catchment so for my non- musical, non-dancing son the technology test was his best (only) hope. Last year 1535 hopefuls sat the VR test, the pass mark for which was 128. So the standard required is really high. The first 24 had to get 269 overall to get a place but there was some waiting list movement.

It's known for being traditional, quite strict, good for music and maths. If you look at it's pupil profile online they have a very high percentage of high ability pupils much higher than any other local comp and very few low ability pupils. Also very few pupils on FSM

Most who go there seem to enjoy it. Parents are typically middle class, educated and affluent. But I have heard that there is a rough element particularly this Y7 which the school has apparently struggled with. I'm hopeful that these will be confined to the bottom sets which is usually what happens. For us it was an ok compromise - it's local, strong on maths, and diverse.

My son had CAT tests yesterday and starts in September he's really looking forward to it. So I'm happy that he's happy.

The VR results come out before the end of term so it won't be long till you find out. Good luck to your son.
