Ds1 had a book for reading homework. He is 8 and in Primary 4.
The book contained what i considered to be nursery ryhmes.
One went like this

This little piggy went to Sainsbury's ( i kid you not)
This little piggy stayed at home
This little piggy had roast beef
This little piggy had none
and this little piggy cried wee wee wee i've peed my pants.!

Then they had to read the whole thing again in Jamaican.
I wrote to the teacher saying that i thought it was inappropriate for school children, but Dh thinks its funny and i'm over reacting!
There was also one about Hunpty Dumpty getting pushed off the wall, and another one about a little star, is it a comet, or a plane or a meteorite crashing into earth

Is the book sponsored by Sainsburys?

I did wonder. It was the peeing in the pants bit that annoyed me, but maybe i'm just being oversensitive today!

Saltire, presume you're Scottish. Mine did something similar around p4 IIRC. They had to translate Cinderella into Glasgwegian, I think. I think the purpose is to encourage them to see the story as a whole, and use langauge in context, rather than just learning how to use words. I think also, there was one part where they had to update nursery rhymes. Could this be what your DS was doing? Sorry to sound so vague. It was only 2 years ago, but I find it hard to remember what I did two hours ago these days. I think the point is to make language "fun" and if your DS is anything like mine, he'd thoroughly enjoy the "peeing the pants" bit. I think you maybe are being a wee (wee wee) bit oversensitive.
