High and Primary schools in Wigan

that's it really. moving there over summer and was wondering if anybody has personal experience and what to recommend. thanks

i live near wigan are there any particular areas you are looking at and any faith schools?
wigan as an area is quite lucky in having some very good schools and one of the best sixth forms in the country with winstanley college.
If you have a particular area in mind i can let you have some examples

The nearest primary is Mabs Cross Primary, however that just got requires improvement on its latest ofsted.
The next one is St. Marys & St Johns Catholic Primary School that recieved a good

Im not 100% on the area so there are other primaries but further out and possibly too far out to get a place on distance

The nearest High school is The Deanery, does have church attendance on its list of entry criteria.
Further out is St John Fisher catholic high school

yes definitely Swinley. thanks. I'll study the links. and pleased what you told me about Mabs cross. must have been something older I had read about it. being a good school.

If you are looking for High School place the ones around here that are doing extremely well but are oversubscribed are St Peters and Standish Community High. The links to both Standish and St peters very are good. There is a school bus service which goes through Wigan and public transport is between every 5 -15 mins. I have friends with children at both of these schools and are well thought of for very different reasons.

St Peters is fast paced and very academic hence it being very strict. Standish is big on pastoral care and personal ownership. Behaviour is good and through visiting Standish I felt the kids were very positive and enthusiastic.

A few years previous The Deanery had out shone most schools in the area but has slipped slightly. Visiting the school I felt I was 'on my own' and the open evening was disorganised leaving me unable to ask questions.

Many parents have a lot of praise for Mabs Cross but as some one said earlier has been slated by OFSTED in their last inspection but have implemented many changes as a result. There are many good schools within walking distance of Mabs Cross.

Winstanley College is a very academic college and very much sought after meaning they can actually cream off the top the best pupils. With that being said their pastoral care is not what it should be and if a pupil begins to struggle they are very much on their own.

they will be year 3 year 1 and year 7 when we move. and thanks. only moving there because there's fredericks ice cream on our door step haha
