I'm getting panicked about next year. Just heard only 2 from my daughters nursery got school places!

My daughter goes to a nursery attached to a school and out of 13 kids in her class, only 1 didn't get into the school and that was because they lived closer to lots of other schools.

Yes but we live very close. A handful from school nursery and another nearby nursery didn't as too many people were ahead of them in priority e.g siblings or closer. Lots are gutted as at least 16 of them would have got in last year as the distance was 0.1,of a mile bigger (90 urban intake)

Try not to panic and see where they live and got allocated - it may help you to make sensible preferences for next year. (I assume you are next years intake). If its a local school nursery then lots generally get in, but its no guarantee. If its a private nursery then in my experience the distance parents live is much wider, so children end up at all different schools. You need to look just at where you live and scrutinize the criteria for the schools you would want.

My son did not get a reception place even though he attends the school's nursery. However the majority of his classmates did because they have siblings at the school or they attend church (Church of England School). Check out the admissions criteria for your school and you will see if you make the grade.

We live 321 metres from the school, the catchment has been 600m but this year was under 400 because of all the siblings who take priority.

Hopefully next year there won't be so many when I want my DD to move up!

Yes but dd has a statement so gets priority and around here very few schools (ones I'd want anyway) are oversubscribed tbh

Just look at it realistically. Check the radius of previous years intake and the number of places available. I.e, 1 or 2 forms vs 3 forms. Also, ring your LEA and ask them how far you live away from the school, they should be able to tell you the distance as the crow flies if this is their admissions criteria. Don't get panicked by other families.

We didn't on distance - it was 600m this year and we are 800m. Frustratingly we would have got a place the last 2 years.

We're in Scotland and didnt get our placement request. Going to appeal but our list of grounds is shaky:

Her gran doesn't know the way to catchment school
Green really isn't her colour

In Glasgow,we got our placing request for ds to go to the specialist language High School attatched to (similar) primary, that dd1 goes to, and theres really little question that dd2 will follow next August.

I realise we're lucky. Its been a massive effort to support our dc going to a school with a language that we have historic links to but dont speak ourselves. But we're seeing the results in 3 bilingual dc!
