Moving to Huntingdon area

Hi there,
We are looking at moving to one of the Villages near Huntingdon but I'm really worried about getting my 2 children into the local primary schools.

Does anyone have any experience of moving 'in year' to a new school. If we move into the catchment area of a 'good' school what are our chances of getting the children in? My worst fear would be having to commute by car miles away to an undersubscribed school.

Anyone been through the process and have any advice?

Thanks
X

I would just contact the council - info [[http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/info/20059/schools_and_learning/363/apply_for_a_school_place/6]]

or even schools directly to get an idea of how full the classes are for the years/s you are looking at.

If its a reception place you need you might have issues, but otherwise there may be places available, even in the more desirable schools.

We were recently looking at getting our boys into a very good school (Swavesey Primary) and there was space for our eldest (Y2) but we would never have gotten our youngest in as we aren't in catchment and he was this years reception intake.

We're a few years off schooling but I just wanted to say, good choice on area, the villages and little primary school around here are great.

Thanks for your replies. I'll definitely contact the schools directly once we have a house offer accepted. My son is going into year 1 so it sounds like we might have a chance. Out of interest do you know what sixth forms kids from Swavesey a Village College go to? Is it a feeder school for Hinchingbrooke or do pupils end up all over depending on catchment areas again?

I know you're looking at Y1, but the list of schools with Reception places available for Sep 2014 might serve as some indication:
www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/downloads/file/2652/cambridgeshire_primary_schools_with_places_remaining_september_2014
Quite a few in Hunts, for some reason.

It looks like Swavesey pupils can go to Hills Road (and presumably Long Road & CRC). Hills Road

Thanks! That list is really helpful. I has helped to set my mind a rest :)
