Hi there
Has anyone taken P.T.L.L.S teaching course?
I am about to embark on one from Monday for 4 days and quite worried on what to expect, how hard is the course and the Amount of work I need to put in myself..!
Any advice would be most appreciated.

Have they not given you a course outline?
Mine took up a reasonable amount of time. 3 essays so all the prep that went with that and a reflective journal. Mine was a level 4 pttls course.

It shouldn't be difficult as such, assuming you have a sound background in the subject you want to teach, most of the info for your essays is within the teaching . However if it is an intensive course I'm surprised you haven't been given more advice as to what to prepare ie. for the microteaching.

I did ptlls in 2009 - just checked my portfolio, I did essays on the following.

Roles, responsibilities and boundaries
Current legislation
Equality diversity inclusion
Ground rules/behaviour
Embedding functional skills
Record keeping
Types of assessment

And the reflective journals of course on everything you did.

The other units were practicals - formulating a lesson plan on your specialised subject and then the microteach which involved lesson planning, delivering and reflection

I work part time and it was doable without much trouble. Did mine over a term, one morning a week.

I've been assigned this through work too and is advised as 36hours distance learning and part of a 4 day refresher.

I'm a trainer at work and this is an optional unit as part of my refresher. Need to crack on before the end if the month :/

Make it cherry brandy and I'll consider Grin

Please help with links or websites to PTLLS assignments questions ... Mine within hair & beauty industry.
I did the 3 day course and my micro-teach presentation went really well. Got very good & positive feedback from teacher and peers.
Thank you

Sorry to hijack but has anyone done a PTLLS course in London? Can you recommend anywhere? I want to do an intensive three or four day course (ie not evening or distance learning course) and can hardly find any recommendations/ testimonials.

Hi shoes on, try city & guilds
www.cityandguilds.com/courses-and-qualifications/learning/teaching/6302-preparing-to-teach-in-the-lifelong-learning-sector-ptlls
They have different venues in London. I did mine on 17 March at advance training located by Asda Park Royal.
Their next 3 day course is due on 7th April. Good luck and keep me updated.
Ah, in what sector your PTLLS will be?

getyourshoesonNOW · 27/03/2014 22:23

Thanks for that - was it good?

10152530 · 28/03/2014 06:48

Hi
Yes it was good and a bit hectic..., 2 days of teaching and 3rd day for micro-teach presentation. You have to prepare your lesson plan and deliver it in 30mins on the 3rd day.
I would suggest to choose the topic you will be presenting to the teacher and peers and start planing your lesson too.
What is your specialism?

It isn't called PTLLS any more, it is the L3 award in Education and Training.

getyourshoesonNOW · 28/03/2014 09:50

Funky, many colleges still seem to offer PTLLS, but I would prefer to to the E and T award, as it is the latest qualification. 101, my specialism is literacy

Any help with where to find resources/ examples of PTLLS level 4 assignments!!! Thank you

Hi Any one can help me to know is it worth it doing this PTLLS course.
Is it compatible with QTS or PGCE. Any idea to get into teaching after doing PTLLS course.
Thanks

LIZS · 29/01/2017 12:11

Murray, it is for those wanting to teach adults 19+ so wouldn't be enough on its own for school teaching.

eatyourveg · 30/01/2017 07:47

If you do the DTLLS which gives you the PGCE equivalent, iirc the first 6 weeks or so is made up of the PTLLS syllabus.
