Relocating to Petersfield from West Cornwall~school advice needed!

Hi all.
We are relocating to Petersfield from West Cornwall during the next few weeks.
Admissions at County hall have told me that Petersfield Senior School is totally full (even though our new house is technically within the catchment area), so I am looking for a good alternative for my 14 year old DD who is currently in year 9.
I have heard that Perins School in Alresford is very good - could anyone advise me please?
I am also looking for a primary school for my 10 year old DD who has been home schooled for awhile and who needs a more laid back friendly environment where Art is celebebrated and where the children are very friendly.
Any help would be really appreciated!
Lastly, can anyone advise me if Petersfield is a friendly and safe place to live please...it's a bit daunting after Cornwall!!

I always wished we were closer to the New Forest small school. Too far from us and probibly you toobut always looks ideal.

Are the pupils at Perrins still doing GCSEs as a three year course? The current year 9s are already doing the GCSE syllabus. It also has rigid streaming so if you are in B band (streamed by yr9) MFL are optional which is limiting for late developers.

Petersfield is lovely- I grew up there and my parents still live there. Sorry I don't know about schools though, as I went to Churchers which is private.

Bohunt - Liphook, loads of kids shuffle backwards & forwards between Bohunt & TPS on the train. No contest for ease of travel vs Perrins.

TheMoreItSnows · 07/02/2014 21:09

Petersfield - unthreatening, sleepy little market town. Good facilities, great schools, fab access to the countryside (South Downs), close to decent beaches (West Witterings & Hayling Island), Guildford 25 mins drive away for 'proper shops'..... We love it.

Last post - honest Grin
Primary schools - all excellent, try Sheet, Steep or Petersfield Junior School. Less relaxed is Langrish Primary (quite pushy, less arty). Otherwise Greatham is chilled, wouldn't recommend Liss Juniors - sorry.

Relocating from West Cornwall eh? We know people who are going to West Cornwall soon from here...... Wonder if you're connected?!

Great area - lovely open air swimming pool and also good indoor one too ! Very close to South Downs and sea but also a reasonable train journey for visits to London (if required).
Bohunt School is becoming a favourite amongst parents in our area (over the South Downs from Petersfield).

mummy1973 · 08/02/2014 21:52

TPS and Bohunt are both good. Depends what sort of culture you are after. Both academies and take all who apply in normal admissions time so well worth phoning direct.

TalkinPeace · 08/02/2014 22:00

I work in Liphook occasionally : Bohunt now v v crowded
interesting that TPS is chokka : worth staying on their case
but frankly, outside Portsmouth, Southampton, Basingstoke and Andover there are no dud Hampshire schools !

ISingSoprano · 09/02/2014 16:32

In your position I would be looking at Bohunt. I am a Perins parent - it's great but if I lived in Petersfield I would be sending my dc to Bohunt.

LilleBlom · 09/02/2014 20:29

Thanks for that question - I really don't know though. I guess I need to find out.

Petersfield is lovely, nice opticians there too - Arnolds in the main high street, I went there for YEARS before I left the area and actually still went there when I lived over an hours drive away!

Can't help with the schools though because I was at a private school.

LilleBlom · 10/02/2014 15:08
