Glendower Prep

Hello all. My DD has an offer from Glendower and I would like to know what your thoughts are on this school. I have heard Glendower has a reputation of being a hothouse. Is this true? For example, has anyone heard of girls being asked to leave because they weren't academic enough? My DD has an offer from Fulham Prep and wait listed at Thomas's Fulham. We are based in Fulham.

Hi Kittykat - they are all good schools! FP and TF are v nurturing in those early years. Do you want single sex? If yes, go for G. Factor the journey (and also parents evenings, concerts, plays etc ) and having local friends into the mix aswell. It doesnt look far on the map but in rush hour can take you a long time - i don't know how many from G live in fulham. You could probably walk to FP and TF. Is running around outside important to your DD? If so, FP and TF have proper playgrounds and are near parks. I didn't think G's academics were on par with say Ken Prep, so I wouldn't call it a hothouse. Go with your gut instinct. Good luck.

I would try to get offer from Thomas's Fulham. The commute to Glendower will be annoying, plus you don't have the park there and sports facilities and space is so much better in Fulham. Glendower used to be considered a hothouse but recently results aren't actually that great and I had a feeling their expansion wasn't a great idea, it looks a bit crammed and crowded to me.

There are definitely girls asked to leave (or who want to leave) at Glendower, just like at all the other very academic prep schools. I would probably go with a local school and then if you want a very academic prep you can try 7+ entry to Ken Prep instead which has fantastic facilities.

I also have an offer from Glendower and FH. I had a tour of G with the new Headmistress and it certainly didn't seemed cramped, though the playground is small. Also Head stressed that they differentiate (?) in all classes so work is suitable for all, meaning no one has to leave.Need to decide by Tuesday - eek! Edging towards G because of its pastoral feel.

Thank you for all your comments. Dog1dog2: not sure if we prefer all girls or co-ed, that's part of the problem! Outside space is important but G do sports outside of the school and transportation is good so not worried about the lack of space. If I could do it all again, definitely would apply to Garden House. Have heard so many great things about it and love the way girls and boys are educated separately but meet at playtime! My fiends who have sent and sending the DC there are absolutely thrilled with GH!!!
