Adult education - chrysallis counselling courses

have come across these - anyone got any experience please

Never heard of them but have friends who are counsellors and who also lecture on counselling courses at unis.

The main training is start with the certificate in counselling, ( 1 year) followed by the Diploma ( 3 years) then several hundred hours of practical, unpaid ( usually) counselling to add to the training.

The alternative is a degree such as a masters in psychotherapy which is what my friend who teaches the Diploma course did.

There are loads of courses for counselllng which are not worth the paper they are written on if you want to go into the profession seriously and become a full member of something like the BACP.
