Churcher's College Admissions

Can anyone give me any advice or share experience of admissions to Churcher's senior school? Our Ds's are at prep school and some way off, but we are considering a house move and thinking through all of these things!

How large is the intake at 11 and how competitive is it? Are there many places for newcomers who haven't been at the Junior School? Do any join at 13+?

Thanks in advance! Smile

I'm not sure about the size of intakes, but their admissions department has been really helpful (I was asking about 13+ entry) and was able to say that their main intake is at 11+, with an entrance exam in the January of the year of entry. Its the same method for 13+. They do offer scholarships at 11+ and 13+, but far less at 13+

11+ is the main entry point and is over subscribed for the past few years approx 240 to 250 for 120 places including the 40 odd from junior school, so about 200 for 80 free spaces. Having said that some people apply to multiple schools ie Portsmouth grammar, portsmouth high etc. normally only a few spaces if any at 13 depending if any children left in yr7 or yr8.
It is selective but not overly so. A great emphasis is on the headmaster's interview rather than the top scores from the entrance exams. They say they don't have a sibling policy but there are many families with two or three children there as well. Quite a few start yr7 from state. Hope that helps.

Hello inthename and lovetoski - that is really useful. Sounds like 11+ is a safer bet to aim for entry and ease of making friends etc. Think we will have a look at Portsmouth G too - do you know how they compare in terms of entry? Portsmouth is a bit far for us, but certainly do-able!

Thank you ;)
