Nice school but where are you aiming for after Holme Grange? It depends on how high flying you want her to go after prep.

That would be a big factor in my decision.

is it not very academic? was thinking of downe house

Then you need to ask how many they send there (their website suggests seems to have a few going to Luckley Oakfield and the Abbey- both good schools in their own right but depends what suits your DD) ...although Downe House will no doubt say they take from any prep school but you should take a look at schools like Eagle House (feeder for Wellington but also sends elsewhere) and Lambrook (also send quite a few to Wellington for girls and places like Downe House). I don't know enough about the academics at HG to comment. You can best glean that from visiting schools and meeting the head and asking those sorts of questions about how many go where and where they get scholarships to etc.

thanks - would not go down the Lambrook route as already taken a child out of there and Eagle house - when I went - the head of the pre prep spent most of the time holding the door open for children barging through! It is difficult to choose - feel like I have been round everywhere but thank you for your advice

HG isn't very academic. Maths isnt great. I took my child out. Little Grange and Prep Prep is excellent and then Prep seems to fall off a cliff. The school is overcrowded, poor food, not enough sports facilities for the amount of children so have to use Cantley in Wokingham for matches and sports lessons. The changing rooms is horrifically overcrowded so sports kits and uniforms seem to disappear because there is so much pressure to get changed so quickly. Not much room to move in the classrooms due to the number of children. Lots of children leave in Year 6 rather than stay. Headteacher very ambitious and visionary but not getting the basics right, feels like it has lost its way a bit in Prep, lots of teachers don't seem to stay very long.
