Coombe Girls School

Thinking very positively about the school for DD currently in yr 6 at primary. Close to home- tick, streaming- tick, lots of extra-curricular- tick. Just one thing though, had a look at the leavers destinations and not many are going to 'top' uni's.

Can anyone shed a little light? I thought the express stream girls were seriously bright. Are they choosing non-Russell group uni's out of preference or am i missing something (possible!). Does anyone have any knowledge of the 6th form? Is it as good as the rest of the school?

I know I'm being a complete worrier and over-analysing everything!

I think in the last Ofsted report year 13 was a bit lower in attainment than rest of school but not by much?

When looking at leavers destinations what are you comparing to. As the school is not selective and all lower school pupils getting the minimum required GCSE grades will get into the sixth form , you really cannot compare with highly selective schools. My DD is in year 9 so have not got that far yet, but I get the impression that he brightest are given all the support to go as far as they can.

However, there is lots of movement for sixth form and no catchment area issues, so I wouldn't really worry too much about sixth form when choosing for year 7 entry. That choice can be made much later when your DD knows what direction she wants to take.
