Looking at moving to the Windsor area from across the world (quite literally). Any tips on great schools in the area that have best SEN and excellent Gifted and Talented programs? Hoping to find both in one school. Ages 10-15 year olds. SEN for 15 year old boy. Thanks

State or independent?

If state then Windsor Boys for 15 year old boy. Windsor has middle school system so yours would all be either at middle school (years 5 - 8 so 9 - 13 year olds) and then either Windsor Boys or Windsor Girls upper schools. I've got friends/DS has friends at both and haven't heard anything bad from them. Otherwise, if you go north you're into the Slough and Bucks 11+ system with Grammar schools, which, personally, I'd avoid (and that's with DS at a grammar school). For secondary schools (starting at year 7) just outside Windsor, Churchmead in Datchet has a very "mixed" reputation - but as with all schools you'd need to look at it and make your own mind up. Other state secondary option starting at year 7 is Charters in Ascot, but you'd need to be very careful of your catchment area as it's very very popular. There's also a good choice of single sex and mixed secondary schools in Maidenhead. No idea what to recommend for private as the state schools around here are so good I've never really thought about them.

Hi. Well Charters a lovely school but need to live more Ascot/Sunningdale way to be sure of a place. Teaches Latin, Russian & Mandarin to clever kids. Has G&T list as well as subject specialists and offers great extension to all. Amazing SEN dept. Loads of private schools in area if thats what you want - can help with info on some.

Is WGS good now? I went there in the 80s and it was bloody atrocious (not helpful OP, sorry)

bisjo · 10/12/2013 22:54

Not sure what WGS is like now but it was pretty rubbish 3 years ago. WBS info I have is current.
