Latymer Prep 7plus Scholarship / Bursary

Hi can anyone confirm that the above only offer 1 academic means tested scholarship at 7plus entry. I have registered my son for 2015 entry but think I mis-read the information. I will give them a call in the week but just wondered if anyone else knew. I would only be able to consider my son if a bursary / scholarship was available, but if there is only 1. I may have wasted 75 pounds as although he is academically very bright and I am confident that he would do well in the assessment I wouldn't put him through it if there was little chance.

Yes, they only offer one scholarship per year group in the prep school from year 2. They do offer more scholarships and bursaries at age 11 (year 7).

You haven't wasted your money. I know nothing about that particular school but this is definitely an area where you should trust your instincts.

Firstly - if you have very strong positive feelings about a school it is probably because it really would suit your child. And it's likely that the school might feel that equally strongly.

Also, even if there is only one bursary - there's no reason why your child shouldn't get it. Often the pool of candidates is smaller than you might expect - and not all of them will have any realistic chance. Assuming you have a very short shortlist because you've taken a lot of trouble to weed out most of them - you probably are on the right track.

Fwiw I've known instances of a child applying to only 2/3 schools, each with only one schol/ bursary on offer - and to receive an offer of an award from each of them. It's absolutely not impossible and your child might be the exact child that a school wants.
