IIRC it's at the discretion of the nursery you are leaving. If you leave at the beginning of the new term they may hand over the money they've received. Towards the end of the term they may well have already allocated the money, eg for mterials, staff etc and so won't want to hand it over. Once the new term starts you can just fill in the usual forms at the new nursery and the funding goes straight to them.

Incidentally the funding is nothing to do with Sure Start. There are some Sure Start run nurseries that are subsidised by Sure Start but your funding is from thenursery voucher scheme

Yes. The new nursery will give you a form to fill in on the September headcount day. They will then be given the funding for your dd until the next headcount day (January).

the funding comes through the local authority and I think is for all kids over 3 (or the term after their 3rd birthday - we had to pay up until easter for our twins because they are mid january birthdays ). The new nursery would apply on your behalf at the beginning of September - but are probably filling in provisional forms now (to be finalised on headcount day) - at least that is the way it works with our playgroup.

The only exception I'm aware of is if you put your child in a "nursery classs" attached to a school. When I filled in the form for DD I remember reading that you are waiving your right to nursery funding in any other setting for the year once your child joins the nursery class.
