Entry criteria for c of e school

Do C of E schools require child to be christened? My son has not been christened and we are not church goers, but we would like him to go to nearby c of e school. We are in the catchment area.

Check with the school what their entry criteria are. My local CofE school does not require children in catchment to be christened, but if you want a place from out of catchment then you need a supporting letter from a vicar/priest etc. But you need to check with the school as each one is likely to be slightly different.

Most won't. In villages they are the only school and they take those in the catchment area. It is really only big cities like London where they are oversubscribed. It comes into play if you are outside the catchment area and they are over subscribed.

It depends on the school. The one DD goes to takes 10% of the intake (3 per year) on proximity to the school (in practice, this radius is about 300m), the rest are based on church attendance.
If you don't want them baptised, you can generally have them dedicated (like a naming ceremony but in church, no water involved), but you'll probably need to attend church at least once a month.
If you object to that level of church involvement, perhaps you should ask yourself why you want your DCs to attend a school which holds that church's values in its ethos.

DD1 is at her 2nd C of E school (she recently changed Primarys due to a move) and neither required her to be christened and she isn't.

If it is CofE voluntary controlled that means there will be no religious entry criteria. If it is voluntary aided there may be religious entry requirements for some or all children. Best place to check is your local authority website which should have details of admissions procedures for all your local schools.

Oh, and if there are religious entry requirements, just being christened won't normally be enough - you actually have to be a regular churchgoer.

It all depends. Is it Voluntary aided or Voluntary controlled? If the later it probably doesn't even have any C of E places. You need to contact the school for the admissions arrangements. I know a C of E school in Surrey which is nearly 100% Muslim, there are more like that in cities.
In rural areas often the only local school is C of E, and just accepts on distance.

Even my DCs primary has: looked after, statement end, regular worshippers at a named church (at most 1 or 2 a year), siblings, within a catchment area, Christian (any variety) for whom this is the closest C of E, then distance. They usually get to the last admission criteria.

You need to check the entry criteria of the individual school you are interested in.

There is no single version that applies to all CofE schools.

Locally, if you didn't send your dc to the CofE schools, they wouldn't go to school. They're the only option for many, many miles unless you choose the local Catholic school instead. Our schools are all CofE in name only really. They're VC and as such, entry require are the same as any other state primary in the county. Educational/special needs considered first and then proximity.
