Have had two children go through recently from 13+ to sixth form and happy to recommend. The Head is very impressive. Academics are now right at the forefront of the school and there are some brilliant teachers. A handful were not great but I have noticed since the head arrived over 6 years ago that there has been a distinct improvement in the calibre of the new teachers. Out of all my children's teachers there were only about 3 or 4 I thought were below par. The school is quite strict about entry to sixth form which means everyone who makes it is reasonably academic and predicted good A level grades making the peer group focused and quite hard working. Sport, art and drama still very big indeed and taken seriously and done well with masses of opportunity for participation. If music is important there is no big orchestra however lots of music evenings with smaller bands and choir is of very high standard. Pastoral care was superb and really loved the house system which means no child is ever left to drift. The housemaster is key however and the very best ones in my opinion are in Atkinson, Mclure School and Cedars. Mine were both incredibly happy there as were all their friends but of course not every single child loved it. A lot depends,of course, on what you personally like in a school and what suits your child. It is of course a quite stunning place with incredible grounds. Parents get to go up there quite a bit as they invite you to loads of different events throughout the year. It helps make you feel part of the school community and I am going to miss it as much as my children!
