Does anyone else find it hard not to blub in school assemblies?

Pre kids I never thought I'd be the type of person that cried when dd or ds had 1 or 2 words to say in assembly. But I have subsequently discovered, to my horror, that every time either of mine have anything to say or do in assembly that I start welling up! Luckily they haven't noticed yet but in a month's time, it's dd's birthday assembly when all the birthday children go up (with their parents) and light a candle and the rest of the infants sing them a birthday song . Have visions of myself in a weeping heep on the stage while everyone else is fine!

I'm going to have make one of my nails very sharp and stab my hand throughout to stop the tears coming! Does anyone else feel this way?

Yep,I have to bite my lip really,really hard.
I literally sobbed through Ds2s Nativity.Even my mum was ashamed of me and she used to cry at That's Life!
I was choked up last night telling DH that Emkana's baby was here

I find it hard and they're not even my own (step kids), saw dsd's first majorette show at the weekend and almost blubed

I never get to see dd, as the bloody school wont let prams in.

As I am one huge sentimental tear, the thought of assemblies petrifies me.
I cried today at breakfast when DD volunteered the fact that the photographer who had come to her n/school yesterday was 'small and rather stout'
I was overwhelmed, I'm not sure why: the fact she knew the word 'stout'? The use of 'rather'? The fact she was enjoying painting a word-picture for me?
Anyway it made her shriek with laughter

Blub loads at these sorts of things, although I generally can't leave work in time to make it to assembly. When DD was doing her school visit, before she started, the class was practising its nativity play, and I even welled up watching that, and DD was sitting down watching with me and wasn't even in it, ffs.

God, I'm a total nightmare. I cried at all DS1 & 2's stuff, especially their leaving assemblies and when DS2 played Fagin in the school production of Oliver. DD starts school in Sept, I can feel myself welling up already .

Oh, I'm terrible Their little voices, crooked halo's at Christmas and shepherds with wonky tea-towels on their heads. Or when they read out their poems. Sniff!!

The only thing is, everyone else is sitting there digging in their nails and swallowing lumps too. You'd have to be made on concrete not to well up! Enjoy!

yep foxinsocks. I missed her special assembley too. Hopefully now the dts are walking I might make it to the nativity this year.

I usually blub like a good'un, but I have found a cure. At ds1's class assembly last week, I had ds2 (10 months) with me who proceeded to babble and blow raspberries all the way through and then chuck my watch over the edge of the balcony where the parents were sitting, on to the heads of the kids below. The stress levels made me quite forget to cry....

just to go one worse, marne, I blub every time and I'm just the teacher!

I could have cried at Speech Day this year, when big strapping 18 year old Head Boy thanked his Mum for all she'd done to support him through school. I wasn't on my own!!

Oh - I always well up! DD1 had her class assembly a couple of weeks ago and the theme was "friends" - you should have seen the whole class on the stage, arms around each other swaying and singing along to "That's What Friends Are For" - wasn't a dry eye in the house!

yes I definitely think it's there little voices and the oh so wooden performance that gets me every time

Blubbed today - my ds 5.6 spoke for first time on assembly and sang a class song and my dd 7.6 sang with the choir. Can't help myself.

I am Mrs Well-up. I well up at the sight of other people's kids doing stuff in assembly; I welled up when the teachers did Is this the way to Amarillo at the head-techer's retirement assembly; I well up when I see (adult) people that I don;t even know winning sporting medals on tv; I am pathetic.

I am terrible for doing this! It brings back such happy memories of my primary school days and looking at the children's faces looking out for their mum or dad (or whoever) to wave to and smile at, I'm welling up already

always get a tear!! even if they don't do anything, I think its jkust seeing them being all independant

definitely had trouble when I went to dd1'sfirst ever big assembly with parents...in fact I did shed a tear, she's sooo grownup sniff sniff

Just reading this thread has made me well up. I cried at sports day when ds2 won his race and darling ds1 came last in his! Assemblies, nativities even Michael Owen falling over at the footy last night - and I'm not an avid fan I just thought it must have really hurt - all make me cry.
