singersgirl - 5 is fine if you can find a teacher who specialises in teaching 5 year olds the piano. A lot of the books are totally unsuitable - too many descriptive words, get complicated too quickly, pressure to name notes early etc.

my ds is 9 and been having guitar lessons for a few months. Is doing really well and enjoying it. He's stuck at it better than i expected, and i'm not v pushy about practising.
