Government plans for new school terms

Does anyone have any idea where the government was at with its plans to change the number of school terms? I'd love to know what the changes are and when/ if they're likely to be made...

Many thanks

Robbie I think I read that no term would be longer than 7 weeks and I'm pretty sure it was going to start next year. R

Months ago I heard that the decision to change school terms was to be left with individual schools. I don't know if this is still correct.

This enables schools to take into account all sorts of religious holidays, to reflect the needs of the pupils attending the school.

I've heard that the new terms are due to come into effect from September 2003.
