Best location within Greater London for Schools?

Our daughter is about 3 years now. We can?t afford private education but would like the best education the state can provide.

  1. I work in Liverpool Street and husband works in Canary Wharf. We would like to keep the travel time to less than 1 hour (max).
  1. We would like to buy a 3/4 bed house. Our budget is about 500K. We can cut down on number of rooms - our most important consideration is that the place should have the best primary and secondary schools.
  2. We can move basically anywhere within Greater London to get best primary and secondary schools. I would like to avoid Kent and Surrey ? travel costs just unbearable.
Any suggestions where we should move? Which are the best areas in and around London with commute time of about 1Hr to Canary Wharf and Liverpool Street station, with best primary and secondary schools?

Thanks for reading my post.

Upminster. Good train links to London via overhead and tube. Upminster is in zone 6 and Canary Wharf zone 2, so fares are cheaper 'cos don't touch zone 1, and overhead journey to CW about 45-50 mins. Upminster to Fen St and then circle line/walk to Liv Street doable (Liv St zone 1 though, so fares dearer than commute to CW).

Good primary and secondary schools, esp Upminster Infant & Junior School and Coopers' Coburn School for secondary. You could get a reasonable property in the 500k range. Worth a look.

Carshalton is in zone 5, so whilst a Surrey postcode is still in Greater London and a normal travelcard (though yes, you do need to go through zone 1). Don't write off all of Kent and Surrey for goodness sake! Especially as there are grammar schools in both which are in zone 5.

Blackheath - all saints and john ball side. Both have been ofsted outstanding for ages.

Chock full of finance types - direct trains to the city and c wharf.

Can access kent and bromley grammar schools but local state secondaries are a bit dodgy so many/most budget for private secondary at Blackheath HighJAGS/City/Alleyns/Eltham ect.

I believe Redbridge (north east) has some very good schools, and is a mere hop and a skip to both L Street and Canary Wharf.
