What should DD (12) wear for interview?

We are overseas and DD pretty much wears shorts and t shirts all year round. Since she outgrew party dresses there is very little smarter gear in her wardrobe.. We'll be visiting potential schools for her for Y9 when we are back in the summer and one school want to interview her.

What's an appropriate outfit for this situation? Since its school hols, her uniform sounds wrong.

TIA

Can't go wrong with plain black skirt or trousers and a shirt/blouse.

Get her a smartish dress and a cardigan. She's a child, no need for her to go too businessy.

Yes, I agree, I would go for a fairly smart dress too and proper shoes and socks. I would make sure her shoulders were covered and it was not too short. As long as she doesn't look like she is going to a party or a beach it will be fine.

A 12yo in a black skirt and white blouse will look a bit odd, IMO.

I agree, just nothing that looks like she's about to go to the beach/disco.

I would have thought at 12 sandals with no socks in the summer (and dress and cardigan) would be fine.

Yes, summer dress, cardigan, sandals or ballet pumps.

DD2(12) looks wrong in tights and heels, where as DD2(15) does not.

If she's still 12, she's going to be one of the younger DDs in her year, unless she's very tall and mature, I'd tend to send her looking like she's 12 not trying to be 14.

HabbaDabbaDoo · 22/06/2013 23:36

As long as it doesn't look as if she is going to the beach, going to disco or has been wearing the stuff to bed then I don't think it really matters.

Thanks everyone for your comments. DD says she'd like to wear coloured jeans - thought if I found her a smarter shirt (not t shirt) she could wear this with cardi and ballet flats. She has either green or coral red pair. they are quite new, fill length. All dresses we have or have seen are either more party like or sun dresses so don't seem so appropriate.

Also have summery skirt from gap but not sure about that either.

What do you think? Many thanks

Grin @habba
what is she comfortable in? most dc I know would wear the stuff you describe - skinny jeans and floaty blouses, and either converse or ballet flats. some nice little jackets on many of them yesterday too.
I don't think it is an issue either tbh (but would do the same as you and debate it tooWink ) just make sure her hair is brushed done neatly and very minimal/no make up, perhaps the latter depending on personality.

Startail · 23/06/2013 07:57

That was DD1(15) outfit for something smartish yesterday Grin I'm sure it will be fine.

monikar · 23/06/2013 09:32

That sounds fine. As long as she looks clean and smart it will be perfectly ok.

timeforsomethingnew · 23/06/2013 17:27

OK, thanks! Will stop panicking (about that ...)!
