Year 6 pupils starting secondary in July?

I've recently heard that my local academy is going to be taking pretty much all of the year 6 pupils from July instead of waiting until September, to help with transition - and that if this works it might be extended to more schools in the area.

It's something I've never come across before so wondered if there was anyone else (teacher or parent or anything) who had seen this, and if it made a difference?

I have heard of this before and it sort of makes sense - year 6s do tend to coast from now to the end of term - but I have no first hand experience of it.

Thank you SandStorm - do you have any idea where? I'm trying to google other schools that have done and and found absolutely nothing :(

I think this would make sense. In the secondary I teach, pupils are moved to the new year group after the June half term - which makes sense as the Y11s have left except to come in for the odd exam. I've always thought it would make a lot of sense for them to take the year 6s then too. It does save the 2nd half of the summer term from being such a waste of time.
