GCSE grade boundaries

I am totally shocked to see what the GCSE grade boundaries are in core GCSE subjects. For example in physics students only have to get 33% to get an A*, Chemistry 39% and English lit 49%

Are other exam boards like IGCSE and IB the same?

that really doesn't sound right at all poppydoppy - do you have a link to where you saw this?

What is the source of those figures?

Done before - and proven to be incorrect?

I suspect OP hasn't read source correctly... and they were referring to the actual marks not the %

OK, Ive just looked again and the marks are out of 60 therefore not a % mark. Phew.

Not sure which exam board you are looking at as this certainly isnt the case for edexcel. Grade boundaries for chemistry at A are about 44/60 (73%) per unit. Wow I wish your grade boundaries were the right ones as my dd would be an A student (along with 90% of the population)

Suspect the Daily Fail apply the same level of care and attention as the OP to some of their pronouncements on education .....

I didn't read that as boasting but exasperation at the reality that students do have to work bloody hard for their grade and that it is frustrating to read the constant doing down of the exam system...often based on mis-information like that found in the opening post.

There's no superior intelligence involved - the OPs statement about grade boundaries is so obviously incorrect that a second glance at the figures would have shown that and been warranted before posting.

My DD is currently doing GCSEs and has got A* in all her mocks so far without too much revision, when I saw the grade boundaries I wrongly assumed it was a % mark. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I don't post on here often so Ive not seen the old threads on this topic.

It's not just old threads, it's the Government and the press. Your post is bearing the brunt of a lot of rubbish spouted out there by people who really don't understand the realities.
