What would be the benefit of doing this?

If a child with a very high absence figure was removed from a school register/roll just days before an Ofsted assessment would the absence still show as being recorded on the schools figures or not?

If they were a persistent absentee but had been removed from roll then they would not show on the figures for that. But their absences overall as part of the school community would stand I think.

The same issue was raised in the last few days on a separate thread about an exclusion, where the question was whether the exclusion (of someone with high absence figures) would impact attendance figures. You may like to search for that thread.

The interesting story I heard is that a permanent exclusion can trigger an Ofsted inspection. So within 24 hours of an Ofsted inspection being completed, a handful of students were excluded from a local school.
