Hi All,
We are seriously considering moving to folkestone area (hythe etc..)from Orpington. Reason being, too expensive here. Yes there are good school around here, but when looking around Kent, especially folkestone, seems to have great grammar schools (folkestone & dover grammar for girls). Is there anyone out there that agree with me, or I we just mad to want this move? Thanks

I know this area fairly well although I don't live there. As far as Im aware Dover Girls Grammar is in Dover it is a well regarded good school but do watch the catchment area. A friend who lived in Hythe could not get her DS in Dover Boys Grammar as they were way outside the catchment area Folkstone Grammar was their nearest school and at the time had a pretty mediocre reputation but thing may have changed we're talking 4-5 years. Hythe etc was at the time also outside of the catchment area for the well regarded Canterbury Grammars.

I'm reasonably local. Folkestone School for Girls/Harvey Grammar for boys are the nearest options. FSG is ok, HG is not a good school at the mo. we are the wrong side of Folkestone for Dover to be an option, and even from Folkestone its a bit of a trek.

further afield, Norton Knatchbull and Highworth in Ashford are both well-regarded. Canterbury is really too far (imo) to travel day in day out, but I know people do it.

I'm not a grammar fan anyway...

of the non-grammars: Brockhill Park (Saltwood nr Hythe) is by far the best closest to Folkestone. Pent Valley is not good.

hope this helps?

Very late reply OP, but I would highly recommend the move. Have you made any decisions?

We used to live in the Hythe area, although have now moved away for work. It's a lovely area and we really miss it.

Would agree with what the previous posters have said re schools - we had a DS at the Harvey in Folkestone and weren't overly impressed. At the time we were there, there was a trend to send boys up to Canterbury, but as happy says, it is very marginal as regards catchment area - some years boys get places, but not others.
