Surrey - most academic schools?

Hi everyone. We live in South London at the moment but my DH wants us to move to the Surrey Hills or nearby (where he can still commute daily to the City). I know lots of people have moved down the A3 from South London, would you mind advising about schools?

My plan had been to put the kids through academic schools her in London (e.g. Kings/St Pauls/Eleanor Hollis) so that, if they wished, they could follow my DH to Oxford/Cambridge. I would love to know what are the best schools in Surrey?

boys- RGS Guildford
girls - Guildford High

are generally considered most high achieving academically. Though there are many many other excellent schools with different strengths for different personalities.

Sir William Perkins is excellent for girls- my niece is there and loves it. Very academic, pastoral care is brilliant and good sports teams and drama. My niece is going to be sad to leave next year I think!

There are parts of Surrey you can live in and still get to LEH, Hampton or Kings. Esher/Claygate and surrounding areas send children there.

Guildford schools also excellent. RGS has outstanding results for getting into Oxbridge.

My DD is 7 and doing really well in a GDST school, my DS's are 2 and 4 (he is doing really well in Reception in a pre-prep). I know that it is too early to tell whether they will be academic or not but, if they are, we would like to be near school that are! I don't want to send them to boarding school.

My DD will be starting in GHS Reception this September. I find the school really impressive in terms of the intellectial challenge the girls enjoy and the sense of fun that prevails. I'm assuming that these things are as important to you as academic prowess.

I would say GHS, with Tormead or St Catherine's for Academic girls schools (all 4-18). They are up there or above the London schools. Then a Prep followed by RGS for boys.

If your DD turns out to be less stellar flying there are plenty of good girls schools around. There are also some alternative boys schools (more than there used to be).

There are also excellent State schools (if only as a safety net in case something happens).

Hampton and LEH have buses into Surrey proper. Both academic schools.

If you don't want to go so far south what about the Tiffin schools?

Actually I think Hampton Boys is not quite as academic as Lady Eleanor Hollis girls. Its more sporty than academic, even though its private. Less Oxbridge entrance success than it used to have...
