Does your school buy in extr curricular activities?

Ds's secondary school has no choir or drama club and I was wondering whether there were companies that provided a "package" that the PTA could fund. Does anyone know?

What about that Stagecoach crowd? And is there not an enthusiastic church choirmaster who might be prepared to give up some time?

dd1 s new school

teacher does choir club as lunchtime club for free

keystage 1 a parent runs drama for £3.50 per session.

keystage 2 junior teacher does junior dram for free and they do annual end year play.

Could your school not consider this.

other parents volunteer to run chess/netball.

At old school they had no after school clubs.
I was on pta and we found it very frustrating.

I would google what companies locally and give them a call.

That works in primary school, mam- it's a bit trickier once they get to secondary.

In DS1's school, a few of the clubs are run by Y12s with light staff supervision.

Threebee- I don't think we're quite ready for that yet. Fantastic when it works though-dd's school has a lot of those.

Does your LEA have a schools music service that could assist with choir?

At DDs school some sports activities are bought in, they are run as after school clubs and the pupils pay (a couple of £) each week to take part.

remember that if the school is an academy (as are half of England secondaries now) anything done by the LEA has to be contracted for and costs extra money

Seeker, many of the grant-funded theatres run youth theatres and have education outreach programmes - and can be contracted to provide an out of schools programme for the cost of a tutor. Do you have a non-commercial theatre in your area?

DS's school works with FilmClub and an outfit that runs the rock band classes (though I'm not sure who it is that does it). We therefore pay £30 per term for rock band, while the vast majority of extra-curricular activities are free.

Not drama or choir, but StreetGames are a fantastic national sport project that work in partnership with schools, offering sport and training / volunteering projects for young people as an extra-curricular activity, and have a branch in Kent here.

Seeker - are you near a university? Music/Drama students would probably like helping out with things like this as it would improve their CV's. Win win scenario...
