No!
The results of the SATs don't arrive until July, by which time your ds will have already been set in ability groups for his GCSE.
Targets for GCSE are set in year 7 based on KS2 SATs and if your school does them CATs.Most schools do not upgrade or downgrade targets after the KS3 SATs.
However if the school gets bad SATs results in year 9, this will effect the schools Value added score from KS2 into KS3 ie if little Johnny got a level 5 in KS2 and a level 5 in KS3, has the school taught him anything in 3 years?
But if the school gets good SAts results but bad GSCEs, then the KS4 valve added score will be low as it looks like no improvement has been made in year 10 and 11.
Hope this helps.

thanks for that. I am just looking at the SATS being good practice for him. also like today he discovered something he didn't know so now he can find out about. so it's all useful

They might be. My daughters scholl use the science ones to see if a child who wnts to can do triplle science. They have to get a level 6 to do this. My daughters not bothered by this as she chose to do additional science.
