RGS Guildford or Hampton?

DS is in the very fortunate position of having offers from both schools.

We'd really love some feedback, positive or negative, from parents with boys at these schools, to help us decide.

Each school has massive strengths, and each has a few minor things that concern us.

In its favour, RGS is in a town, so as they grow older and want to go out for lunch or to meet people after school, the boys are not stranded and reliant on school buses. It seems less sealed off from the outside world than Hampton.

RGS seems scholarly and eccentric - which describes DS. But Hampton's theatre and boathouse and outdoor space to run around - these are things that interest DS hugely... RGS has nothing comparable.

Any feedback from parents of boys who are already there would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Fillyputty, fabulous stats! You don't sound bitter, just very knowledgeable! What about Notre dame, good bus service from a lot of surrounding areas. Where are you based, will have a think about others. Moving 3 times not nec bad, kids are v adaptable (justifying fact am about to do same to my dd!)

RGS had a SENCo more than 2 years ago, but it wasn't a full-time one. He did diagnose dyslexia, and I've known ASD boys go through the school as well as those with life-limiting illnesses etc. (I also don't have a son there, just know the school very well.)

Hampton isn't my area, so I can't comment.

As a former LEH girl, I'd always suggest Hampton. Its not isolated at all, we used to walk to the highstreet or the sainos on lunch breaks, or drive once old enough. Sports, music and theatre at Hampton are brilliant, and the boys next door always seemed under much less pressure and strain than we were. But vs RGS, it would depend where you live, for me.

Sorry can't comment on Hampton but my boys were happy at RGS ( one 7 years , one 6th form) plus I have tutored many boys who have gone and they too have all been happy there.Great school.
