Help? 13+ Scholarship / English

My DS sat his entrance exams to the school of our choice and we had a fabulous letter saying he has a place, but he did so well they want him to sit the scholarship papers, which are only a few weeks away.

I'm not concerned about it - apart from his English comprehension. He sometimes doesn't see what is glaringly obvious in a passage or poem and ends up going off on the wrong tangent.

Apart from going through practice papers with him, is there anything I can do to help at this late stage?

Just do sme practice and realise that many children get scholarships based on ability in a few subjects but not all. A child at our school just got an academic scholarship despite being in set 3 of 3 for English, but Science and Maths are strengths.

OK - that's reassuring. He is strong in Maths and Sciences, Geography, Languages, VR and NVR.

He just scored abysmally in his CE Mocks for English, which scared me.

If they thought the the English was so poor thy wouldn't have put forward the scholarship option to you.
