Willington School Wimbledon

Hello, Does anyone have a son at this school? Would you recommend it? We looked last year and are planning to revisit. I heard that they had difficulty getting a boys rugby team together for a match. We're not looking for an academic hot house ( our older son at Kings) but an all round gentle environment with good teaching and a broad curriculum..

Yes we have a Ds in year 1 . Good features , broad education arts and sports well explored but not an outstanding sports record. Emphasis is on enjoying sport rather than excelling. Really nice family and inclusive atmosphere. Events all include families and siblings. Good range of after schools clubs. But def not pushy school. They get good rather than outstanding results.

I think its only Y8 they have a very small year for, which is why you may have heard the rugby team rumour. My DS is Y8 at another prep and until we got to 1st team rugby (combined Y7/Y8) we always had to put a mixed team forward to play Willington, but this was only for current Y8 not for any other years.
DS's school has a very small Y6, I've never really understood why,the years either side are full and were wait listed.
Go and have a look, you might love it you might not.

I would definitely recommend Willington, JessicaMabel. I also agree with what Wobblypig says. Lovely, nurturing vibe - enables the super-bright to flourish and get into Kings etc but also supports the others, ie not a hothouse but if your child is bright he will flourish academically and if he's not he will still find his place and confidence and get the support he needs to reach his potential. Great balance imo.
