I may be being a bit thick but what is a 7+ exam?

I've seen it on a few threads and its baffled me. Is it similar to an 11+ just for 7 year olds?

Yes. English, maths, verbal reasoning, nonverbal reasoning

You're not a bit thick at all. If you live in a place where private education doesn't really figure, or even exist, there is no reason to know about it at all.
