I am thinking of applying for a job as a school bursar - but ad says must be familiar with schools software. I have used loads of different software packages for office, home, bookkeeping use etc & have no problem picking up new packages, but would like to know if there is a particular brand & does it have similarities to anything well known (Office, Lotus etc)

Thanks

Do they mean the actual learning cd roms themed to each KS or the running systems.
We got an offer to by the some of the programmes run in school but was only the curriculum stuff to support the lessons in school.
I go to PTA meetings and could enquire about this for you.
How soon do you need to know?

I think it is the software packages that they run the finance etc on. I googled for this & found various companies that supply fully integrated schools packages. As there are several available & advert does not specify a brand I cannot see how knowledge is vital.

The one I looked at (CCM) looked simialr set up to QuickBooks :)

I have emailed school for more job info as to give up present job would be a huge decision, but I really fancy a change.

SIMS - School Management Information System or Facility CMIS - maybe?

I think you're in the Reading area Milliways, so I expect the system in use would be SIMS - most schools round here use it. It's by Capita (of congestion charge fame -need I say more) and its HORRIBLE.It has various programs covering finance, admissions, pupil records, attendance , assessment - you name it - SIMs does it. They have constant 'upgrades' which don't work, helpdesks that ring up five times in a row at 4pm asking for a part time staff member who leaves at 3 (as they have been told) and a general attitude that if you're running the system on hardware that wasn't bought from and installed by Capita you deserve any problems you get. I would rather scrub toilets than work all day on SIMS

Thanks everyone - however, the job I wanted to apply for has been withdrawn & readvertised as "Bus Mgr" role, paying up to £38k but involving property tender bids (replacing terrapins with buildings) ALL the Health & Safety, School Transport policy, setting all budgets, charity returns etc etc etc - which is rather more than I fancy at the moment .

Heigh Ho - maybe I'll stick to present well paid but frustrating job!
